Two Types of Hearing Aid Batteries

Rechargeable Batteries

Rechargeable batteries are batteries that you can use over and over again. Instead of throwing them away when they run out of power, you can plug them into a charger. This makes them very handy and good for the environment because you don’t need to buy new batteries all the time.

Standard Disposable Batteries

Standard disposable batteries are the kind you use once and then throw away when they run out of power. These batteries are not reusable, so you need to have extra ones on hand to replace them when they are empty. They are easy to find in stores and are ready to use right out of the package.

It is important that you note the size indication of your batteries as there are different types, and you must have the correct size for your hearing aids.

Sizes of Disposable Hearing Aid Batteries

Hearing aid batteries come in different sizes, and each size is color-coded to make it easy to pick the right one. Here are the most common sizes:

Size 10 (Yellow)

These are the smallest batteries and are usually used in very small hearing aids that fit inside your ear canal. The packaging is color-coded yellow.

Size 312 (Brown)

These batteries are a bit bigger than size 10 and are used in hearing aids that fit in the ear. The packaging for these batteries is brown.

Size 13 (Orange)

These batteries are larger and are used in hearing aids that sit behind the ear or in the ear. The packaging is orange.

Size 675 (Blue)

These are the largest batteries and are used in the most powerful hearing aids that sit behind the ear. The packaging is blue.

Knowing the right battery size for your hearing aid is important to keep it working properly. Remember to match the color on the packaging with the color code for your hearing aid battery size.

Battery life of Hearing Aid Batteries

There are four main types of hearing aid batteries, and each type has a different lifespan:

  • Size 10 (Yellow): These are the smallest and usually last 3 to 7 days.
  • Size 312 (Brown): These are a bit bigger and last 3 to 10 days.
  • Size 13 (Orange): These batteries last 6 to 14 days.
  • Size 675 (Blue): These are the largest and can last 9 to 20 days.

The life of a hearing aid battery depends on several things, like the type of battery, how often you use your hearing aids, and the settings you use.

How To Extend the Life of a Hearing Aid Battery

Making your hearing aid batteries last longer is easy with a few simple tips! Here are some ways to keep your batteries working their best:

  1. Turn Off When Not in Use: When you’re not using your hearing aids, like when you’re sleeping, make sure to turn them off. This saves battery power.
  2. Open the Battery Door: At night, open the battery door to let air in. This can help the batteries last longer and keep your hearing aids dry.
  3. Use Fresh Batteries: Always use new, fresh batteries. Check the expiration date on the package before using them.
  4. Store Batteries Properly: Keep your batteries in a cool, dry place. Don’t store them in the fridge or near heat.
  5. Avoid Moisture: Keep your hearing aids and batteries away from water. If your hearing aids get wet, the batteries can drain quickly.
  6. Let Batteries Breathe: When you take a new battery out of the package, let it sit in the air for a few minutes before putting it in your hearing aid. This helps activate the battery.

By following these easy steps, you can make sure your hearing aid batteries last as long as possible!
